Mary Frances Kretschmar
Mary Frances Kretschmar coached junior and senior high girls basketball for over 20 years, leaving a lasting impact on the lives of hundreds of female athletes in Northwest Arkansas. She led the Fayetteville High School Bulldogs to back-to-back state championships in 1993 and 1994 and was recognized with numerous coaching awards. Beyond coaching, Mary Frances also played a key role in promoting Title IX, drug testing, and the NCAA Clearinghouse while serving as the assistant athletic director at FHS.
George Lewis
George Lewis, a standout basketball player at Fayetteville High School from 1954-56, later had successful stints at Coffeyville Jr. College and Panhandle State College. He excelled on the court, averaging 16 points and 10 rebounds during his junior year of high school and 17 points and 11 rebounds during his senior year. After a knee injury ended his playing career, George transitioned to coaching, serving at Fayetteville, Russellville, and Prairie Grove for a total of 13 years. He also made significant contributions as the president of the Arkansas Activities Association and received the AAA Citation for Outstanding Contributions to Athletics in 2002.
Sherman Lollar
Sherman Lollar, a standout catcher in major league baseball during the 1950s, had an impressive career with a .264 batting average, 155 home runs, and 808 RBIs over 18 seasons. He was recognized with the first Rawlings Gold Glove Award for catchers in 1957 and went on to earn three such awards, as well as being named to nine All-Star games from 1950-1960. Lollar's legacy extended beyond playing as he later served as a bullpen coach for the Baltimore Orioles and a coach for the Oakland Athletics, and also managed minor league teams in the 1970s.
