2017 Inductees

Ronnie Brewer

Ronnie Brewer, a standout athlete from Fayetteville, excelled in both football and basketball during his junior high and high school years. After choosing to focus on basketball, he earned several accolades, including Arkansas Mr. Basketball and Parade All-American. Ronnie played ten successful years in the NBA and has now returned to the University of Arkansas to begin his coaching career, while also making a positive impact in the community through his foundation.

Bill and Carol Brunner

In an era dominated by men’s athletics, Bill and Carol were trailblazers who established women's sports programs at Fayetteville High School. Bill started the women's track program, leading them to victory in the 4A State Meet in 1976 and earning recognition as the Arkansas Activities Association's Women's Track Coach of the Year. Carol introduced women's basketball and gymnastics, achieving success and serving on various athletic committees. Their combined 102 years of dedication to Fayetteville athletics earned them the 2015 David Lashley Bulldog 6th Man Award, and their legacy of success extended beyond the court, preparing their students for life.

David Lashley

David Lashley, an esteemed graduate of Fayetteville High School, excelled in football and basketball, earning All-American recognition in football. As a dedicated public accountant, he passionately supported his alma mater and the Fayetteville community, serving on various boards and coaching sports teams. His love for the school and community led to the naming of the 6th Man Award in his honor, and his contributions extended to the founding of Butterfield Trail Village, where a boardroom now bears his name.

Phil Stewart

Phil Stewart, a dedicated alumnus of Fayetteville High School, was a man of many talents and a passionate supporter of FHS athletics. He could be found cooking at football games, assisting in the press box, working the concession stands at basketball games, and cheering on FHS baseball teams. Phil's caring heart extended to all athletes, providing support, whether it be shoes, food, or encouragement, and his contributions left a lasting impact on the success of the program.

Gail Striegler 

Gail, hailing from Fayetteville, Arkansas, emerged as a star athlete in both track and basketball during her time at Ramay Junior High and Fayetteville High School, earning All-Conference and All-State honors. Her athletic prowess continued at the University of Central Arkansas, where she excelled in basketball and track and field, eventually being inducted into the Central Arkansas Hall of Fame. Gail's coaching career took her to various institutions, including the University of Central Florida and Long Island University, where she became the winningest head coach in the school's women's basketball history before joining the coaching staff at the University of Minnesota in the Big Ten conference.

Robert Wilks

Robert Wilks, a talented athlete and vocalist, was a star player on both the football and basketball teams at Fayetteville High School. Despite facing challenges due to the climate for African Americans in the mid-sixties, he worked hard to achieve his goals, including enrolling at the University of Arkansas before joining the Air Force. Although his dream of becoming a Razorback player didn't materialize, Robert remains a devoted Razorback fan and has served our country for eight years before pursuing a successful career with the Federal Government.
