Betsy Broyles Arnold
Betsy, a trailblazing athlete from Fayetteville, Arkansas, achieved remarkable success in high school basketball, leading her team to a 62-14 record over three seasons and earning multiple honors. After becoming the first Fayetteville girl to play on a basketball scholarship at the University of Arkansas, she graduated with a degree in Real Estate and Finance. Now, as CEO of the Broyles Foundation, she dedicates herself to supporting Alzheimer's patients and their caregivers while hosting a radio show focused on community resources for the aging population.
Louis Perry Bryant
Louis Bryant, a pioneering athlete from Fayetteville, Arkansas, achieved remarkable success in high school, lettering in baseball, football, track, and basketball. As the first African American to be honored for excelling in all four sports at Fayetteville High School, he played a significant role in integrating high school sports in Arkansas. Later, he pursued a successful career in the Air Force before tragically losing his life as a hero in the line of duty as a member of the Arkansas State Police.
Delano Cotton
Delano Cotton, a multi-talented athlete from Arkansas, excelled in football, basketball, and baseball, earning All-district, All-Conference, and All-State honors in all three sports. Named a Football High School All American in 1958, he was the sole football player from Fayetteville High School chosen for the Arkansas All-Star Football Game in 1959. After graduating with a BSBA degree from the University of Arkansas, Delano pursued a baseball career until a shoulder injury led him to serve in the Army Reserves for six years.
Lisa Cornwell
Lisa Cornwell, born and raised in Fayetteville, Arkansas, excelled in basketball and golf during her school years. She earned All-Conference and All-State honors in basketball and played on the high school boys' golf team. Later, she became a successful collegiate golfer at the University of Arkansas, helping establish the women's golf team and earning multiple All-American and state amateur titles.
Joe Kretschmar
Joe Kretschmar, a renowned basketball coach and athletic director, began his career in Fayetteville in 1962. Over his thirty-year tenure, he achieved numerous milestones, including leading his teams to ten conference titles, three state championships, and the "Tournament of Champions" in 1987. He was also a trailblazer, being the first to air a high school basketball game on prime time television in Arkansas and taking his teams to national high school tournaments.
